On Sept. 8, William covered a significant Google Chrome vulnerability, the U.S. government’s economic revitalization plan fueled by $1 billion federal grants and how attackers stole personal data from a recent Keybank breach. He also talked about a group of telecommunications companies that dropped their lawsuit against one of Maine’s privacy laws and the FTC’s investigation of Amazon’s acquisition of One Medical. Finally, he previewed articles from Security Boulevard, DevOps.com and Container Journal, which covered the community’s reaction to a reported TikTok hack, the NSA and CISA releasing a set of DevSecOps best practices and the top 7 Kubernetes alternatives for container orchestration.

Hi again, everyone here the headlines for September 8th. First up Google has urged users on all operating systems to update Google Chrome as soon as possible Google recently released a Chrome update to Patches significant vulnerability that is actively being exploited in ongoing cybersecurity attacks. The vulnerability involved a collection of back-end libraries called Mojo which are used by many chromium base browsers.
If you haven't updated your recent version of Chrome, then Google recommends you do so immediately. Next the United States government announced that they will send 1 billion dollars of federal grants for manufacturing clean energy farming biotech and other Technologies. 9 trillion dollar coronavirus relief package.
Unlike the pandemic aid though these new set of Grants are meant to revitalize parts of the country that need help. These grants would be the largest ever for Local Economic Development provided by the Commerce Department. The US has stated that the grants will be provided over the course of five years and will end up creating over a hundred thousand jobs.
in other news Kink reported that hackers stole personal data from home mortgage holders in a breach of a third party vendor the information that hackers stole included Social Security numbers addresses and account numbers according to KeyBank the hackers obtain the information back in July after getting into the computers of an insurance provider as it became aware of it in August. That being said though Key Bank did not state how many customers this breach is affected. But the total number could be quite large as KeyBank operates in 15 states and is close to 200 billion dollars in assets.
Next up a group of telecommunication providers has dropped its bid to overturn one of the strictest internet privacy laws in the United States. In 2020 main creative one of the strongest rules for internet service providers that stops them from using disclosing or selling access to customers personal information without their consent. Some of the biggest telecommunication providers immediately sued a claim arguing that it violated their first amendment rights, but the group only recently filed to dismiss the lawsuit with this dismissal.
This marks the move where other states can now follow Maine's lead to create stricter privacy laws. 9 billion dollar acquisition of one Medical both one medical and Amazon receives requests for additional information during an FTC review of the merger. Amazon originally announced plans to buy one Medical in July and the deal was meant to help push Amazon into Healthcare.
This is following after Amazon's recent shutdown of its Amazon Care Home Health Service. critics of the sale argue that to expand the company's already huge Market power taking a step back though. This is a myths and already ongoing FDC investigation involving Amazon's Prime setup sign up and cancellation practices.
