Techstrong News Recap – September 19, 2022
On Sept. 19, William Willis covered the Ethereum Merge, South Korea’s 70 million dollar fine of Google and Meta over privacy violations and the EU’s new legislation for making sure devices achieve certain levels of cybersecurity. He also talked about how the Perseverance Mars Rover found organic matter and how Adobe is acquiring Figma for 20 billion dollars. Finally, he previewed articles from Container Journal, Digital CxOand Security Boulevard, which covered a collaboration between Dell and Red Hat to make Red Hat’s OpenShift platform available on all Dell systems, the use of mobile apps and cloud infrastructure and the community’s reaction to the Uber hacking incident.

Hi again, everyone here the headlines for September 19th. First up at long last the ethereum merge finally occurred at the end of last week the cryptocurrency switched from using a proof of work system to a proof of stake system. This new system will take 99% less energy and will change how the transactions occur as well as how tokens are created.
Before the software upgrade a single transaction on aetherium could use as much power as an average US household used in a week. Aetherium is the second largest cryptocurrency after Bitcoin analysts say that this new upgrade could give an advantage as it seeks to grow in the crypto Market. Next South Korea's privacy Watchdog is find Google and meta a total of 72 million dollars over privacy violations South Korea's personal information and protection commission decided these companies practices of tracking consumers online Behavior without their consent as well as using the data for targeted ads.
Additionally the commission ordered Google and meta to provide a clear and easy process of consent This being said though. Both companies have refuted the claims. Zooming out.
This is the biggest fine ever imposed by South Korea for Privacy Law violations. In other news the European Union recently announced new legislation that would make manufacturers that make devices connected to the internet meet strict cybersecurity standards. The goal of the legislation is to make the EU less vulnerable to attacks as a ransomware attack takes place every 11 seconds in the annual cost for cyber attacks in Europe cost somewhere between 180 and 290 billion euros.
The law also aims to remove all products that are not properly protected from the EU Market. The EU has stated that they witnessed an increase in the Cyber attack since the pandemic started raising concerns that anything and everything could be attacked. With this new legislation, they hope to fix this problem.
Next NASA hosted a briefing Thursday to discuss highlights from perseverance Mission. So far. One of the big announcements was made that the Rover found organic matter in some of the rocks.
The organic matter was found in Iraq named Wildcat Ridge located in ancient river Delta region known as the jezero crater. These organic molecules are considered a potential biosignature. Meaning that the substance could be evidence of past life, but these molecules could also have been produced without it.
That being said though, the perseverance isn't equipped to find the evidence of Life on Mars as the burden of proof for finding life on other planets is incredibly High. So samples would need to be sent back to Earth to learn more. Next Adobe has announced that it would acquire figma for 20 billion dollars.
Adobe has been bulking up on applications that support online collaboration recently a missed a push towards more remote and hybrid work environments. io. This purchase also takes out adobe's biggest rival in the digital design realm whose platform is used by firms such as Zoom Airbnb and coinbase.
The deal is expected to close in 2023. On container Journal we have an article looking at a collaboration announcement between Dell and red hat that will allow Red Hats kubernetes based openshift platform to be available on all systems from Dell. The two companies also agreed to work together to build a hybrid Cloud offering that will extend the management of on-prem instances of openshift to both public clouds and Edge computing.

Uber says, it's responding to a cybersecurity incident in which the hacker has appeared to take control of critical systems including the public Cloud accounts on Amazon and Google as well as customer data source code and finance data. com.
