Hi again, everyone here the headlines for September 1st. First up. The justice department lawyers are an early stages of drafting a potential antitrust complaint against apple with several of its prosecutors piecing together material for the potential lawsuit.
While Apple has had the attention of the doj before with its focus on the app store. They are now considering how apples control over its devices harms its competitors. This suit would be the latest legal battle for the government to rein in big tech companies that control the global internet.
That being said though, the doj is not made any decisions to whether or not they plan to follow through with the suit against Apple. Next Amazon looks to be struggling to expand in India Amazon is behind Flipkart its main rival in India in several key metrics as it lags and getting business in several of India's smaller cities. India is a key overseas Market where as being one of the world's great growth markets and the world's second largest internet Market that is only expected to double by 2025.
To this end Amazon is explored Partnerships with small businesses and attempted to acquire one of India's retail chains. With this alongside of India's regulatory environment. It makes it an interesting question for how Amazon and other e-commerce Giants are to expand.
In other news First Solar the largest solar panel manufacturer in the US said that it would build a new solar panel manufacturing plant. It says it will invest up to 1 billion dollars in the new Factory which it plans to build somewhere in the southeast of the US. First Solar cited the recently passed inflation reduction act as the deciding factor for it to build the factory in the US instead of looking elsewhere.
This announcement Comes This First Solar struggles to keep up with demand for solar panels that just doesn't seem to end it is currently sold out through 2025. But with this new plant the company hopes it will help keep up with demand. Next up snap has announced that it's planning to lay off approximately 20% of its Workforce according to snap.
It has been playing this layoffs for several weeks now. This news isn't that shocking though as it stock price is lost nearly 80% of its value since the beginning of the year. Snap, like other tech companies aggressively hired during the pandemic.
However, snap hasn't fared too. Well coming out of it due to several factors such as recession fears as well as Apple's Crackdown of AD tracking. With the layoffs though it helps you can get back on track.
Next it. Looks like Toyota is also investing in EV battery production in the US. 6 billion dollars in the US but it also announced it would invest in Japan as well for the production of batteries of electric vehicles.
Toyota has stated that production is expected to start between 2024 and 2026. Well Toyota has had success with this Prius and other Hybrid models. The demand for EVS is expected to grow.
