Hi again, everyone here the headlines for October 6th. First up the White House is released a set of goals and guidelines regarding the harms caused by the rise of AI these guidelines also notice the blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights has no actionable pieces instead. It is an announcement to the US government of the importance to keep digital and civil rights safe in a world surrounded by AI.
The document has been in the works for over a year Consulting over two dozen different departments in incorporating feedback from civil groups in tech companies. Next a new report shows. The social media account hijacking has skyrocketed in the past 12 months.
According to the report social media takeovers have increased 1,000% in the past year with 70% of those being affected being permanently locked out of their social media accounts. This can have detrimental impacts to those who use it whether it be for personal or commercial use Additionally those who the hackers send messages to are also at risk as people are more likely to trust the message sent by someone they know. In other news the chipmaker Micron Technology has an asset plans to invest over a hundred billion dollars over the next 20 years to build a computer chip factory in Upstate, New York.
Micron is stated. They plan for this to be the world's largest semiconductor facility and will create 50,000 new jobs. Micron originally stated they would invest 40 billion through the end of the decade to build multiple manufacturing facilities back in August of this year.
Next Arizona has announced the 85 million dollar settlement with Google over a lawsuit that accused the tech company of secretly obtaining data. Arizona prosecutors initially began investigating Google back in 2018 after reports of Google misleading consumers on how they were using location data. Then Arizona sued Google back in May of 2020 for using deceptive practices that were in the software.
The case was supposed to head to court later this month before the settlement was announced.
