Hi again, everyone here the headlines from March 20th. First up Samsung Electronics is planning to invest approximately 230 billion dollars and a new project to construct the world's largest semiconductor manufacturing base in South Korea. This initiative is part of a broader national campaign aimed at promoting technology Industries in South Korea.
Samsung will be constructing five new semiconductor plants in the jong-ji print Province by 2042. The objective is to encourage 150 other companies to participate in the project focusing on producing materials or components or designing Advanced chips. The new plant will manufacture both computer memory chips and logic chips demonstrating Samsung's ambition to expand its presence and advanced chip production.
Among the chips that will be created includes those used in 5G wireless networks artificial intelligence and self-driving cars. South Korea has also stated that it will invest in the project and provide increases in tax deduction rates to expand its production of chips. This comes in South Korea is trying to become a major player in the chip space as other countries are doing the same thing with like the US with its ships Act.
Next the bided Administration is increasing its effort to pressure tiktok to be sold from its parent company in order to separate cell from this Chinese ownership warning of a possible ban if the company does not comply. Tiktok confirmed that it received the request but said that selling app would not affect its data flows or access. The US government has asked the committee on foreign investment in the US to oversee the sale of tiktok.
However, tiktok claims that is implemented its own measures to regulate content without being sold including an audit by Oracle. Next up Baidu the Chinese search engine giant has revealed its latest AI chatbot Ernie in a much anticipated. Launch. Ernie is seen his China's closest competitor to open ai's chat GPT, which is gained significant attention within the AI community.
Despite battery's efforts to Showcase Ernie's capabilities, the chatbots presentation left industry observers feeling underwhelmed as it only featured pre-recorded responses to prompts in five different areas. Currently Ernie is only available for testing through invitation and people who are interested in must join a waitlist. Experts believe that for Baidu to use Ernie bot to build an application ecosystem it much demonstrate stronger performance in areas such as reasoning and following instructions.
