Hi again, everyone here the headlines for March 13th. First up the Dutch government intends to place further restrictions on the export of machines used to manufacture Advanced processor chips in line with a broader us effort to limit China's access to chip making materials. The Dutch Minister foreign trade in development cooperation has written to lawmakers outlining the proposed restrictions, which will build on existing controls for semiconductor technology.
Asml, a dutch-based company is the only company worldwide that produces machines employing extreme ultraviolet lithography to create Advanced semiconductor chips. The Dutch government has already barred asml from exporting some machines to China since 2019, but the new export control measures will Target specific Technologies used in the semiconductor production cycle. The Dutch government has pledged to release the new regulations before the summer.
Next silvergate capital a key lender to the cryptocurrency industry has announced plans to wind down operations in liquidate its Bank. Although all deposits will fully be repaid it remains uncertain how the company will resolve claims against this business. Silver Gates liquidation comes after months of struggle including a 1 billion dollar net loss in the fourth quarter of 2022 in the layoff of approximately 40% of its Workforce in January.
Silvergate acted as one of the two main banks for crypto companies alongside the new york-based Signature Bank, which ultimately spells uncertainty for the sector as a whole and leaves companies crypto companies like coinbase and Galaxy digital with no choice, but to look elsewhere after the banks unfortunate demise in other news sensitive personal information belonging to members of Congress and their families may have been exposed after a hack of the DC Health Link health insurance Marketplace. It seems that more and more companies are adopting tiktoks form of content distribution a feature that is allowed it to grow tremendously.
