Hi again, everyone. Here are the headlines for June 15th. First up, the venture capital firm, Andreessen Horowitz, has announced its plans to open its first international office in London.
The Silicon Valley firm known for backing tech giants like Airbnb and Coinbase aims to capitalize on what it seizes a more welcoming environment for crypto entrepreneurs in the uk. It believes that the UK has the potential to become a global leader in crypto, blockchain and digital currencies. The move comes as the US intensifies its crackdown on the crypto industry with the securities and Exchange Commission initiating lawsuits against major players like Binance and Coinbase.
On the other hand, the UK has Provo proposed its first formal regulations for the crypto industry, offering more clarity and consumer protection. Additionally, Andresen Horowitz plans to launch a crypto startup school in the UK to identify talent in the crypto and web three space. While on the topic of ai, Google has delayed the launch of its generative AI chatbot barred in the European Union after failing to provide adequate information to the Irish Data Protection Commission. The DPC has raised concerns about data protection, as has requested a detailed briefing or data protection impact assessment, as well as supporting documentation from Google. The dpc, however, did not specify the exact concerns it has with Bard.
Zooming out this delay comes in contrast to open AI's Chat, G B T, which has been accessible to users worldwide without limitations. Although the DPCs intervention does not constitute a band, it highlights potential privacy and control issues that may require Google to provide disclosures and user controls.
