Hi again, everyone here the headlines for January 30th. First up the FBI has successfully shut down the website of a well-known ransomware group named Hive which specifically targeted hospitals and healthcare providers. The website became an accessible late last week.

A government advisory from last year reported that the group had affected over 1,300 companies globally and extorted about 100 million dollars in ransomware payments. The successful shutdown is part of a broader effort by the justice department to address the increasing issue of ransomware, which is affected everything like healthcare with Hive to education and major Enterprises. The problem of ransomware has garnered a lot of attention recently in various methods have been employed to combat including traditional law enforcement tactics.

Next Nokia, a wireless and fixed Network equipment maker reported strong fourth quarter results due to a high demand for 5G technology. The company reported a net profit of 1 billion dollars for the October through December period a 27% increase from the previous year. The company's performance during the quarter exceeded predictions from analysts with an incredible performance of the company's Network infrastructure business unit.

Zooming out Nokia is one of the world's main suppliers of 5G the latest generation of broadband technology and Nokia has stated that it anticipates 23 to be a growth year as 5G can roll out continues though. It must remain cautious with the current economic environment. In other news IBM and sap have both announced company-wide layoffs.

These job cuts are in line with the trend in the technology industry with several tech companies like Google Amazon and Microsoft announcing layoffs recently. Next up a year after the most destructive wildfire in Colorado's history lawmakers are considering using artificial intelligence to detect and prevent future blazes. A senate committee has voted to move forward with a bill that would create a two million dollar pilot program to station cameras on mountaintops and use AI to monitor the footage it detect early signs of a wildfire. The program with support 40 fixed camera stations and six mobile stations that can be moved to monitor ongoing fires.

The AI technology could even detect a small amount of smoke which could help save lives and properties in remote areas. Ultimately using AI would help avoid another fire like the one last year showing how we are using these new technologies to fight old problems. The bill will now move to the state senate Appropriations Committee for further consideration.
