Techstrong News Recap – January 26, 2023

First up the United States justice department and several states have brought a legal action against Google accusing the company of using its Market position in digital advertising to harm competitors. The antitrust lawsuit was filed in a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia and accuses Google of unlawfully monopolizing the online advertising industry by excluding competitors including through its 2008 purchase of double click.

This being said this is not the first time legal action has been taken against Google by the justice department with the last time being back in December of 2020 over the exact same issues. So we have to see how this all plays out. Next tap Bots the developers behind the popular third-party Twitter app tweet bot has announced the release of its Mastodon Client app Ivory the app aims to fill the void left by Twitter by revoking the API access earlier this month.

While the app is currently in Early Access tap Bots has stated that it uses a similar interface as tweet. Bot but now Embraces the open source platform Mastodon. Zooming out Mastodon has gained Traction in recent months as users and developers begin looking for alternatives to Twitter.

This is a big move for Amazon as it tries to get a bigger foot hold into the healthcare and Medtech markets as it competes with other several competitors such as Mark Cuban's Cost Plus drugs. Amazon has been trying to expand in healthcare for years since this purchase of pill pack back in 2018.
