Hi again, everyone here the headlines for February 9th. First up Microsoft is integrated. Openai's GTP model into Bing to provide a more chat gtp-like experience within its search engine.
As the longtime runner-up search engine. The integration is part of Microsoft's effort to better compete with Google. This new version of bingnow features a chat option and its toolbarged and it is able to provide more relevant answers annotate them and provide up-to-date results.
The company stated that is also launching a new version of its edge browser with these new AI features built into the sidebar. Microsoft believes that this technology will reshape pretty much every single software category ranging from search to even Voice assistance. This being said Microsoft stated the importance of using the technology for human productivity and not spewing false information, which has become a concern with conversational search engines powered by AI.
While on the subject of AI Google is preparing for the new challenge of artificial intelligence with the release of Bard its own conversational AI service aimed at competing with Microsoft. Barter said to have the ability to explain complex subjects in simple terms and perform various tasks. According to Google though.
Bard will be available to us only select group of trusted testers before a wider release later this year. The company is also invested in partnered with AI startup anthropic. Google's announcement of Bard comes less than two weeks after Microsoft disclosed its intention to invest billions of dollars in openai and just as Microsoft rolls out its conversational search engine.
With Microsoft's move intensifying the pressure on Google is emphasizing the importance of artificial intelligence and plans to incorporate AI advancements into Google search engine, but they will have to do it quickly to avoid falling behind. In other news Zoom the popular video conferencing service announced that it is laying off approximately 15% of its Workforce or 1,300 employees. This comes after announcements that the company rapidly scaled up during the pandemic when remote work started become the standard and people needed video conferencing.
Zoom said that the company did not assess its gross sustainability and that the layoffs were due to the uncertainty of the global economy. In addition to layoffs Zoom announced that it's Executives will be taking a pay cut to gone are the days when Zoom rains Supreme and since 2020 Zoom Shares are down by 85% Additionally, it is facing increased competition from apps like Google meet in Microsoft teams as companies look for ways to cut costs. The company is trying to expand its offerings by integrating this features such as email and calendars but it appears that these changes may not be enough.
Next up SoftBank group the Japanese investment firm reported a significant loss in the fourth quarter of 2022. 9 billion dollar loss a very different look than the profit it recorded in the same quarter of the year before. Stopping stated that it attributed the loss to decline in technology shares in the company's Investments and firms such as Alibaba and DD.
