Techstrong News Recap – August 2, 2022

Hi again, everyone. Today is August 2nd, and here are the headlines. First in news the stock market rallied and had its beds best months since November of 2020 the past two years have been riddled with a pandemic supply chain issues and an unstable economy, but July may have been a sign that the tides are turning.

1% higher for July as test tech stocks big Realty retailers and other companies saw a rebound. 7% Improvement this month. Overall, the market is still down tremendously in 2022, but with a strong month and potentially a strong second half of the year a rebound may be on the horizon.

Next NASA will send more helicopters to Mars to retrieve Rock and dirt samples originally NASA sent one helicopter to Mars to accompany a Rover picking up samples. However, it worked so well that they will be sending two more. Currently there Rover's mission is to drill Rock samples and a crater named jezero and an attempt to pinpoint signs of agent life.

However, as this initiative continues the design of the Rover continues to get bigger. To mitigate this helicopters may be more efficient in drilling and transporting samples. With these helicopters the trip back to Earth would take a few more years though coming back to Earth in a small capsule in 2033.

The total cost of the mission would be billions of dollars, but some may argue the potential findings would be priceless. 2 million dollars in Grants to install direct current fast chargers for electric vehicles. The grants will fund 32 chargers at 13 different locations along interstates and major highways around the state.

The grant also comes as part of a partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority to develop a Statewide fast charging Network which comes with a 15 million dollar contribution from TVA. 2 million dollars coming from the tdec comes from a settlement with Volkswagen over software that allowed it to cheat on vehicle emissions tests. Much of this initiative will work to alleviate the common fear associated with electric vehicles that you will run out of charge while driving and be stranded.

The global push for electric vehicles is also largely motivated by the need to lower emissions and help the environment. So it's good to see Tennessee taking meaningful steps in that direction. Next deepmind AI has discovered the structure of nearly every protein known to science.

Using the program Alpha fold researchers predicted a protein's 3D structure from its sequence of amino acids. But the information gained from these sequences Alpha fold can now predict protein shapes in just minutes with atomic level accuracy. This is a major scientific breakthrough as these sequences and structures can improve vaccine development and could even lead to new ways of protecting important egg-laying animals, like honey bees and fish from diseases.

Scientists working on the project noted the unprecedented speed and accuracy of alpha fold as well as how this is the only the beginning of getting Newton novel medicines and helping patients faster than ever before really exciting stuff. In other news Chinese leadership is pledged to give green lights to several new investment deals in the tech sector after several years of preventing similar deals. By allowing investment deals China hopes to help address economic issues caused in part by Massive lockdowns and other covid-19 measures.
