Hi again, everyone here the headlines for April 6th, first up in a coordinated effort law enforcement agencies from around the world have shut down one of the biggest criminal marketplaces Genesis Market used by online fraudsters to bypasswords. The site was used to buy passwords login details IP addresses and other information that form victims digital fingerprints often for less than a dollar the Crackdown on Genesis Market was led by the FBI in the US in the Dutch national police as well as some other agencies across Europe and the Australian federal police. The Crackdown led to the arrest of 120 people globally in the seizing of 80 million sets of credentials in digital fingerprints.
Genesis Market, which started back in 2017 was it One Stop Shop for login data that enabled online fraud with criminals buying login information for Facebook PayPal Netflix Amazon Uber and Airbnb accounts amongst others. Genesis was notable for its user-friendly English language interface, which was successful on the open web as well as the dark web. The NCAA believes that there were around 2 million victims worldwide with tens of thousands of them in the UK.
This being said the site was not just used for fraud. It also had the data on sale that could be used for ransomware attacks.
