Hi again, everyone here the headlines for April 4th. First up Twitter's new Subscription Service. Twitter blue has caused controversy after began removing verified check marks from accounts.
That didn't pay last month Twitter announced that it would begin winding down. Its former free verification system this previous Saturday removing the check marks from accounts that the company previously determined where authentic in the public interest. This being said a day after the service was supposed to begin many verified accounts appear to have kept their check marks except for the New York Times Elon Musk tweeted early Sunday that the newspapers page would lose its verified status after the times were fused to pay for it.
However, some of the times other Twitter accounts including the New York Times World nyt science in New York Times opinion have retained their verified check marks. A spokesperson for the time said in a statement that the company doesn't plan to pay the monthly fee to keep check marks on any of its institutional Twitter accounts. Other major news organizations including the CNN Los Angeles Times The Washington Post BuzzFeed and box have also said they won't pay for checkmarks or for their brands accounts or most of their reporters.
The controversy over Twitter blew and its verification system races concerns about the role of social media platforms and verifying information in news sources as well as the impact of monetizing such verification systems. Next Italy is temporarily blocked the artificial intelligence software chat GPT following a data breach as its investigates possible violations of European Union data protection rules. The Italian data protection authority so that it is taking provisional action until chat GPT respects privacy, including temporarily limiting the company from processing Italian user's data at Italy's request.
Openai has disabled chat GPT for Italian users. However, it has said it believes it's practices comply with the European privacy laws. This restriction is one of the first nation scale restrictions of a mainstream AI platform by a democracy.
Not everyone in the Italian government is an agreement though. The Deputy Prime Minister criticized the decision on Sunday describing as excessive and hypocritical. 4 billion dollars to upgrade the agency's technology systems.
As a part of the deal Verizon will build a network that includes secure Communications and administrative services for the FAA and if all options the deal are exercise the contract will run for 15 years. Additionally Verizon has said it will build a network to support all of the agency's mission critical applications, including air traffic management for more than 45,000 flights per day. This contract comes nearly three months after a critical alert system failed temporarily halting departing flights across the US the FAA has stated it needs to modernize its systems and it hopes that to do that just that with this contract.
Next up Apple is one. It's appeal against the UK antitrust regulator the competition of markets Authority which wanted to investigate apples mobile browser in cloud gaming service. The competition appeals tribunal ruled on Friday that the cma's decision to open a market investigation reference in the fall was quashed because the regulator failed to comply with the established statutory time frames for such investigations.
After a market study of the mobile ecosystem and a preliminary finding in the competition concerns of December 2021. The CMA did not act at that time anticipation of new competition powers that were never granted the cat ruled that the cma's announcement of an investigation in November of 2022 was too late. com.
