Hi again, everyone here the headlines for April 13th. First up. The Chinese technology.
Giant. Alibaba has announced the launch of its own AI chatbot called tongichiwen, which roughly translates to seeking an answer by asking a thousand questions. The chatbot which can work in both English and Chinese will initially be integrated into alibaba's workplace messaging app and it's smart speaker.
The chatbot will be able to perform various tasks including turning meeting conversations into written notes writing emails and drafting business proposals. Additionally alibaba's cloud computing unit says it will integrate the chatbot across the company's businesses in the near future, but no timeline has been provided. The move follows alibaba's announcement earlier this year that it was working on arrival to Microsoft back a openai's chat GPT the interest in general AI has surged since shout tpt's release with other Tech Giants such as Google and Chinese technology company Baidu releasing similar chatbots.
Next the Biden Administration is called for public comments on potential accountability measures for artificial intelligence the national telecommunications and Information Administration seeks to address the growing regulatory interest in an AI accountability mechanism. The agency aims to ensure that AI systems are legal ethical safe and trustworthy. This move comes as concerns grow about the impact of AI on National Security and education chat gtbt as the fastest growing consumer application in history has attracted lawmakers' attentions with over 100 million monthly active users in the administration hopes to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive federal government approach to AI related risks and opportunities.
In other news apple is released emergency security updates to address two new zero day vulnerabilities that have been exploited and attacks to compromise iPhones Max and iPads. Both vulnerabilities allow attackers to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges or if you reuse freed memory. Apple is recommended installing these emergency updates as soon as possible to block potential attack attempts.
The company is not provided details on the attack. But Google threat analysis group in Amnesty International Security lab have reported finding them exploited in the wild as part of an exploit chain. next up the Environmental Protection Agency is set to propose new strict automobile pollution limits that will require at least 54% of new vehicle sold in the US to be electric by 2030 and as many as two of every three by 2032 The proposed regulation would set greenhouse gas emission limits for passenger vehicles for the 2027 through 2020 32 model years, which would be stricter than the goals agreed to by the Auto industry in 2021.
This being said the EPA will offer a range of options that the agency can select after a public comment period and the official said that the Auto industry is likely to push back against the plan zooming out transportation is one of the largest sources of carbon emissions in the US and environmental groups have applauded the ambitious targets.
