This is Textron tv. Hi everyone. Welcome back here to techron tv.
Um, our next guest is actually from telecom Malaysia global, TM Global First time. We've had someone from TM Global on our show, and I'm really happy to have him. I want to introduce you to Niem.
Daman. Nizam is the VP International Sales of Partnerships for TM Global and, uh, Nizam. Welcome.
Welcome to Tech Trunk tv. It's great to have you on here. Thank you, Alan.
Thank you. Uh, it is good. A pleasure for me to be in, uh, the show as well.
Thank you. Thank you. Where are you based, za Well, where are you today anyway, more Importantly?
Um, I'm in Lovely, uh, yeah. And raining today. Yeah.
So Is it raining? Yeah, well, we are, I'm in South Florida, uh, near Miami, and this is our rainy season, so it, it rains almost every day this time, but only for about a half hour. Yeah, around 4:00 PM every afternoon we get a downpour and then, uh, the sun comes back out and, you know, Yeah.
It is what it is. But I, I've actually been in KL in the summer. It, it gets warm there like it is here.
Yeah, It is. It is. Uh, it is humid and warm, you know, but yeah.
Uh, same here. We have lots of, um, uh, sunshine, you know, a lot of greens, you know, so you should come sometimes, you know, a lot. Absolutely.
Unfortunately, I always used to go, so the RSA folks, uh, RSA conference, big security conference, they always used to make RSA eight back in Singapore, and they would always do it around this time of year in July, you know? Yeah. Now, for me, it wasn't as bad 'cause it, as I said, it's the same temperature here, you know, it's in the high nineties Fahrenheit, mid nineties Fahrenheit, but with a lot of humidity.
Very humid. Yeah. Because where it's subtropical.
But I would go to Singapore and then we'd take, you know, a day trip up to KL where we, sometimes I would hop over one. I would, I've been all over the area there, and yeah, it, it's certainly warm. Um, these, um, give our audience, let's, you know, as I said, your VP International Sales and partnerships, but give our audience a little bit of your background of, you know, how you came to be VP there.
Yeah. Um, I spend, uh, with Telecom Leisure for more than 35 years. Yeah.
So it's a long time. Uh, I, I have been in various division and then international or TM Global is the, the longest of all, you know, I, um, started in TM Global, like maybe 16 years back as a account manager that taking care of Ian account. Uh, and then from there, uh, I start to progress, you know, to become the regional gig.
And then after, after that, a GM for the region. And then now, I mean, for the past, I think four years and a half, five years, I'm, uh, vice president for international sales at TE Global. Um, when, when, what sales been put out, you know, people will say like, okay, this is sales guide.
But I think in international sales, 40 m global is slightly different because, uh, our sale, um, uh, approach is more towards consultative. We are working with partners. Um, we, we are working with our clients, you know, uh, the hyperscaler and rest, you know, so rather than the normal sales that people are looking at, uh, the online sales, everything is, is more towards the development part of where, you know, uh, a lot of, um, consultations, you know, with all the partners that we have in the region, uh, and, and around the world, you know?
So, uh, we are great to be here. And then I think, I think from, from my experience, I, I saw, uh, a lot of good development. Uh, and then I think for the past post covid, post Covid was, was tremendous.
You know, everything been speed up, you know, AI happens, you know, broadband, um, uh, showed up, uh, exponentially, you know, so I think, I think, uh, we are in a, in a great time, uh, for, for telecoms, you know, and then moving forward, you know, for, uh, for beyond, uh, um, uh, beyond connectivity, uh, I will say Absolutely. And, uh, you know, it is, it's an interesting time in the telecom industry. Uh, there's so much promise of new technologies.
Before we jump into that though, look, not everyone in our audience is gonna be familiar with TM Global. Yeah. Right.
Obviously, I'm assuming telecom Malaysia is the, uh, national carrier, if you will, or national telecom provider for Malaysia. Um, but it, it's not by the very fact of your title one can gather that it's not just about selling cell service or phones or telecommunication services within Malaysia itself. You guys have a global footprint and Right.
I will tell you, you know, here in the states, in the US sometimes we look with envy at some of the, you know, the, the, the tigers, if you will, of Asia, who you guys didn't have as much legacy Mm-Hmm. As we have stuck with here in the US with pots lines and stuff like that, right? And, and so as a result, we, we see in, in, in your part of the world in Malaysia and, and places like this, you are more advanced sometimes in, in what the services you're able to offer because you don't have a lot of legacy kind of round field, if you will, stuff you have all greenfields.
But talk to us a little bit about TM Global and, and your global footprint. Yeah. tm, TM Global is, is, def is in, uh, extension arms for telecom, leisure, Bhatt, uh, telecom Bhatt is, uh, truly, uh, Ellen.
It is a national telecom. Many years back in 1984, we've been privatized and then we become telecom, bhatt, you know, government, uh, and government instrument still owns, uh, telecom on significant amount of it. Um, our role initially was really to, uh, what they call it, to develop the infrastructure in Malaysia.
Uh, and then I think it becomes, you know, from, from the, the old pots, yeah. Uh, plain telephony services. And then when brought band, uh, came into the picture, you know, uh, the fiber.
And then that's where I think, I think the role of telecom leadership being tested. And then I think the government, uh, start to, um, together with dm, make a private, uh, public partnership, we call it. And then, uh, we spend billions to expand the fiber network in Malaysia, provide the internet services.
But beyond that, because, um, um, um, in, in, in, in connected world. And then when the advance of, uh, internet happens, you know, uh, we, we cannot make our services domestic, uh, TM as a national or incumbent telco, we need to provide internet services as well. So we start to invest on sub c, uh, cable system.
Yeah. So up to date, we have, uh, invested more than 35 cable system around the world. Yeah.
So we have cable that's going, uh, to Europe, all the C3, 4, 5 60 invested. We have cable invested to us, uh, EEG, you know, Inia, you know, so I think, I think we have more than 350 ki uh, thousand kilometers of fiber, uh, being late, you know, throughout the world. Uh, some of it privately, some of it with conservative, and then that give us the, the coverage, uh, and then NTM being responsible for maybe, uh, 15 or 17 years back to put our pops and notes throughout the world for internet access.
So people in Malaysia, when 15 years back when they browse internet, they literally going through tm, uh, cable system, go to the pop of the world, provided by tm. And then from there we start to see, hey, we can do much more. And then TM Global, uh, come into the position where we need access in us.
And then hence we have our office in us. We have been in US for the past 20 years, Ellen, uh, we have office in Washington, dc Uh, now we, uh, we are in San Francisco. Uh, we have, uh, in LE and Vegas, uh, total not that big.
And we have about, uh, 14 odd peoples, uh, in, in us, uh, the role, uh, that we play, um, because we believe that, uh, in providing the solution, we need to be close to the customer. Yeah. And then we typically have our pops in, uh, the Silicon Valley.
Yeah. We have three pops on the eastern part, uh, western part of us, and then two pops in the eastern part. We provide, um, uh, connectivity services, you know, not only in US, but also in London, in Europe, you know, uh, in Middle East, in Dubai, we have offices in Hong Kong, uh, in Singapore, and also in Sydney.
So there are six global offices, uh, with a workforce. Um, approximately about, uh, 60, uh, people, uh, operate globally on different time zone, uh, be close to our customer and partners, you know, and then to provide that solution. So tm, pretty much focusing on, uh, Malaysia definitely as national providers, you know, but expanding our reach, you know, globally, you know, to, to ensure that, uh, there are two approach, one to reach out to the, uh, to the world, and number two is to bring the rest, come to Malaysia and this part of the world.
So, so that is the introduction of TM Global, and then where we are. Yeah. So you have fine our home, home now.
Yeah. Yeah. Excellent.
Actually, I did a great job. I think that gives people a great, you know, idea of this is a global footprint as a global player. So as I mentioned earlier in this arm, then, then you mentioned, right, coming out of Covid, you know, the, the world opened back up, and all of a sudden there was this great promise, you know, around, not just around telecom, but around all technology even, right?
AI promises to change everything, right? From consumers to business, to telecom, to you name it. But on top of that, we, you know, we've been talking about 5G and, and, and, you know, this new and every, you know, all the different services that we could conceivably have with 5G at the same time, our machines, you know, our processors, our networks, our fiber is, is out there.
And, you know, it, it's just, it seems like a great time to be in this industry because there's so much going on, and you have a really unique kind of catbird seed, if you will, right. To, to just see this playing out on the global stage. I'm, I'm wonder if you wouldn't mind sharing with our audience a little bit of kinda what your, from where you sit, what you see going on, and how maybe some of our digital transformation transformation executives out here might be able to harness and leverage that for greater success.
Yeah. Um, um, one thing which is a very important development in, in Malaysia is actually 5G. And then in Malaysia is quite unique implementation because the 5G is actually been implemented by, um, a government agency by the name of DNB.
Yeah. Uh, so the government owned DNB, so, uh, the spectrum, and then the RAN is actually belongs to the MB tm, um, is in, in, in the best position because the infra, the infrastructure for the, the NB 5G is actually under, uh, telecom. So we deploy the fibers, you know, I think, um, 5,000 location and then, uh, increasing more.
Uh, and then I think, uh, the NB is in our ages, you know, to provide, um, uh, the service and everything, uh, for, for 5G. So, um, I, I think naturally telecom Malaysia, because we are the, the largest broadband provider in Malaysia, we have almost like 3000 broadband line, uh, a top 3 million, sorry, 3 million broadband line for Malaysian consumer. And then with added, uh, additional infra, we are supporting, uh, the 5G deployment in Malaysia in, uh, uh, city areas in rural, you know, so development of 5G.
And, uh, broadband is, um, really the catalyst, uh, the catalyst to ensure, uh, the user able to experience all the content, um, for example, the YouTube. Yeah. Uh, for example, all the online, um, meetings that we have today, uh, is enabled through, uh, the broadband and also 5G networks.
And then from there, I think, I think, uh, COVID, uh, show us that you can literally sit home from months and months and then make your job, you know, uh, uh, runs, you know, through online meeting, you know. Um, and then, and then during those time, I think, uh, uh, in, in, in the advent of crisis, you know, I think Tcom and telecom leisure have record. I mean, the, uh, among the, the good years, you know, uh, for two years in term of usage of, uh, the broadband.
Um, one, one area that when, when we talk about, uh, broadband in our part of the world, Alan, um, I think, um, Microsoft, you know, Google, you know, in a recent one, you know, make an huge announcement. They come here to, uh, invest by quantum of billions, even as we speak, you know, um, um, Microsoft and Rest is deploying their hyper, uh, data center, uh, at multiple location Joe Hall and has been selected. And then the news, you know, for the past two, three months, you know, is all about, uh, people building the hyperscaler, uh, data center for, uh, the American OTT.
The Chinese OTT Telecom leisure is actually in the middle of it, because we are providing the DC to DC connection, and then TM ourself, um, invest, uh, in, uh, our neutral dc So in DC uh, standpoint, we have a two layer of DC one, the core, the core level. This is the hyperscaler for multiple megawatt, you know, and then really, uh, the recent joint ventures that, uh, we announced, uh, I think like LA last two weeks, uh, we are building 200 megawatt, uh, of DC in Jehu. And then, uh, on the next layer, looking at the H yeah.
Uh, because we believe that core DC will not able to function, uh, properly, uh, if the distribution towards the eyeballs not being managed. So telecom, Azure is providing, uh, the core level dc the H level, the infra, that connecting, uh, to all those. And then the same time helping, uh, the hyperscaler, you know, the Microsoft of the world, uh, the AWS of the world, you know, to, uh, develop their easy.
And then as we speak, you know, uh, this development is real. Um, Microsoft copilot, um, is, uh, on EI level has been prioritized. You know, people are using it.
We are using it. And then we believe more and more application is coming in, and telecom leisure can, can see firsthand, uh, the growth and exp expon exponential of the traffic coming from all this dc. So if you ask me, uh, Ellen, you know, um, what is up my view?
My view is like, uh, it's real, it's executed, you know? And then I think, uh, the benefit we start to rip from it, um, how fast it can go to the consumer and population will be dependent on the use case that, uh, that been presented. Microsoft have a co-pilot that, that, I mean, uh, been used worldwide, and I think people just start to using all the inferences, you know, other AI learning, you know, to, to come in.
So telecom, leisure, we are grateful that we are in the middle of that. And then, uh, hopefully we'll continue to, um, provide our, um, um, uh, technical capability and also infrastructure, uh, to, uh, to this digital ecosystem. Excellent.
It, it, it, it makes sense. I mean, 'cause you're right where e literally we're east meets West, right? And, uh, yes.
But that brings up another, you know, and it, and it kind of clouds our outlook because we have all of this great promise and great technology of great things we could do, and then politics get in the way, you know what I mean? And, and now you gotta navigate a kind of a political minefield. Well, I could work with this one, but they don't work with that one, and that one has government over there, and this, and it, it complicates things and it just, it gets in the way of good business sometimes, you know?
Um, and I imagine that's gotta be, you know, in your role as a VP of international sales and partnerships, you have to be sort of Switzerland, if you will. Right? You have to be friends with everyone.
Uh, exactly. Exactly. A yeah.
And so how do you, you know, navigate that? Okay. Um, Malaysia, as, as, uh, I mean, as a nation, uh, we been known as a neutral people.
We are nice people. You know, if you've been to Malaysia, people will say that. Sure.
Um, Malaysia people are nice, you know, uh, and, and I, I think we, we truly translate that, uh, in, um, in our business because for good reason, Malaysia is multi, uh, truly multicultural region. Yes, she did country, because we have, uh, the Chinese, the Indians, you know, and then we used to, um, uh, working in a harmony level with all the differences that we have. And when it comes to, uh, telecom, mission services, you know, um, tm, um, Malaysia, taking a neutral stand, uh, when it comes to, we, uh, work with both, um, blocks, I would say if there's a three block, fourth block, you know, we, we don't really, um, uh, put side, uh, we believe, uh, technology is enabled.
We believe, uh, ation is, uh, right, you know, for individuals, uh, similar like education, uh, similar like, uh, uh, other necessary needs of humans. We believe communication now is a need Yeah. Uh, that everybody should, uh, harness, you know, for advancement, uh, for you to, uh, advance yourself, advance the nation.
So we don't put site. And then for good reason, I think, uh, Milia has become a melting pot. Uh, in the recent, uh, announcement, uh, I think you will see that in au there are multiple development for American OTT.
Yeah. Uh, Microsoft, AWS Google, and the same time for Chinese as well, uh, by dance and TikTok, you know, Tencent, you know? Mm-hmm.
Coming over, building it, um, in, in almost like, um, um, I think when I look at it, you know, it happens like side by side, there is a less political ano animosity. Uh, it's more towards like, how do we, uh, come together and then provide, uh, the market with the needs. You know, everybody will have the different value meta come with the cloud, beaming.
Microsoft come with the Azure, you know, office 3, 6, 5, when know teams, uh, TikTok come with, um, uh, um, ance come with the TikTok, uh, rules of it, Alibaba come with, uh, the clouds, you know, uh, payment system and everything. So we, from from tm, we see like, uh, um, this is the benefit, uh, for the region from leisure. And then I think, uh, there's no side for us.
And, uh, for, for us, we see it. Um, uh, we work with everybody, uh, and then, and then, uh, we hope we continue to, to be that neutral position. Uh, and then AAN region, if we look at the, from Thailand, India, China, uh, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia is become, uh, um, expressway or a, a platform, ian platform with almost like 650 million.
Yeah. And then I think the needs of the 650 million population, you know, will, uh, go across to the Western and to the Americans, you know, to the Chinese, you know, to the Indian symptom of the application and rest, we believe that will enable that. And then we take a natural stand, uh, for how we support and how we deploy, uh, then network, you know, for our client and balance.
Absolutely. It's an exciting time and it's an exciting part of the world where businesses, businesses is moving fast, right? Yes.
These are, we're almost outta time for people who may be wanting to get more information on telecom, Malaysia, global, TM Global. What's the best website for them? com dot ny.
So there's a, uh, the, the typical URL, you know, inside that there will be, uh, the sub URL, uh, for, um, all the line of business or the consumer for the business of TM one and also TM Global. And then there are, um, what a specific, uh, section where the global, uh, mentioned about our product, our thesis, our coverage, uh, our investment, uh, where is our sub C. And then I think, um, uh, go there, uh, and then, uh, can drop any inquiries and then, uh, we will pick, pick it up and I will, we'll communicate with, uh, uh, those who interested in term of, uh, the services and then how we can support them.
Yeah. Fantastic. Thank you so much for coming up here on Text Strong TV today and kind of filling, you know, our audience is global and it's about 40% in us, but 60%, the majority of the rest of the world.
25. Yeah. 27% is Europe, 12% is India.
But we literally have a global audience. But it's good to hear from your vantage point there in Malaysia, how this is all playing out in real time with this real technology. Keep up the great work, come back and, and keep us informed.
And best of luck to you. Yes, thank you so much, Ellen, uh, to be your show. Thank you.
It was a pleasure for me, you know, and then, uh, you have a good day. Thank you. Thank you.
Mead vp, international Sales and partnerships from TM Global here aren't text on tv. We're gonna take a break. We'll be right back.
