I am Bonnie Schneider with your Ecotech Analyst Insights META'S 2024 Sustainability Report provides a detailed look at the social media company's eco aware journey. Let's dive in. Overall, meta has made significant strides in reducing its carbon footprint carbon.
Since 2020, the company's been carbon neutral. How did they get there? 7 gigawatts of contracted capacity.
Meta does face challenges though, especially when it comes to its ambitious goal of net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2030. That's because as of now, only 28% of its suppliers have set science aligned steps to reduce indirect scope three emissions. Meta will need to intensify its efforts to influence and engage its suppliers in order to achieve their 2030 goal.
Water stewardship is another key priority for meta. 5 billion gallons of water to stressed regions. That's a notable accomplishment, especially at a time when water consumption is a rising concern, especially for data centers.
Meta's, future plans to decarbonize include prioritizing efficiency, low carbon technology, and carbon removal projects. As meta continues to connect the world and build new realities, it has a unique opportunity to showcase how rapid growth and environmental responsibility can coexist seamlessly across operations.
