Google is leveraging AI to tackle biodiversity loss. The company recently announced three distinct projects focused on conservation and sustainability. First, the Google for Startups accelerator, AI for Nature and Climate offers technical resources, mentoring and strategic guidance for young companies driven to protect and restore natural ecosystems.
org has committed $3 million to Brazilian non-profits to reverse biodiversity decline, stimulate growth, and advance regenerative farming tackling. Biodiversity also requires analyzing thousands of wildlife photos taken by motion. Sensor cameras, a time consuming process, but an open source AI model called Species net speeds up animal identification.
Google now offers this model free to researchers worldwide. Together these biodiversity initiatives underscore the growing role AI plays in addressing environmental challenges.
